If you're an aspiring voice actor, you know that finding lucrative gigs can be a real challenge.

Freelancer websites like Fiverr and Upwork may seem like a good place to start, but the low rates offered on these platforms can be discouraging.

In this episode of the Voice Acting 101 podcast, get some valuable insights and advice on how to build a successful career in voiceover.

I explain that even though freelancer websites can be a good place to gain experience and build a reputation, they often attract clients who are looking for quick and cheap solutions.

As a result, voice actors find themselves competing on price, which can be a race to the bottom.

Instead, focus on developing your skills and finding your unique voice, which will ultimately make you more valuable to clients.

To find higher-paying clients, I recommend exploring direct marketing and pay-to-play websites. These platforms have higher standards for voiceover rates and attract clients who are willing to pay more for professional work.

It's very common for pay-to-play websites to offer jobs with budgets ranging from $2,000 to $5,000, which are way more lucrative than the $5 jobs found on freelancer websites.

It's important to remember that charging less for voiceover work does not necessarily increase your chances of getting hired. While it may be tempting to lower rates in order to gain experience or secure a job, the price rarely plays a significant role in the hiring decision for higher-end clients.

Instead, clients are primarily interested in finding the right voice for their project.

If you're looking to build a successful career in voiceover work, this episode is definitely worth a listen.
